Golden Retrievers are intelligent, active dogs. As such, they’ll need frequent exercise that works out both their body and their mind. Here, we list out some of the best exercises for your Golden Retriever to keep them happy and healthy.
Running and/or Walking
Exercise doesn’t have to be complicated. A simple run or walk around the neighborhood will easily satisfy your Golden Retriever. Just make sure you switch up the path every now and then. If you walk the same path each day, your Golden Retriever will quickly get bored. Take them down a new street, path, or park to keep things interesting.
Agility Training
Agility training is perfect for Golden Retrievers. Not only is it a good workout for their body, but it is a good workout for their mind as well. While this does require some dedication from owner and pet, you’ll be thrilled with the results.
Hiking
If you love to hike, you’ll be pleased to know that your Golden Retriever can join you. Goldies will love hiking as it requires more athleticism and brain power than a normal walk around the neighborhood. When choosing a hiking trail, aim for one with soft terrain that is free of dense underbrush and sharp rocks. This will ensure that your Goldie’s paws will not get hurt while on the hike.
Swimming
Did you know that Golden Retrievers are excellent swimmers? They also love diving, too! So, if you have a pool in your backyard, don’t hesitate to let them join in on the fun. Just make sure they’re not diving off of anything too high to keep them safe.
